Axel Wild makes house, funk, hip-hop and jungle from wildlife he recorded himself on travels across continents and at the residencies and places that invite him. He hears the beat in a wildlife sound before he has hit record, and his sets build the way a dawn chorus does, from deep, slow grooves to full energy. His latest release, The Global Birdsong with Timothy Arinaitwe for BirdLife International, is out via Brian Eno's EarthPercent. On 19 November 2026 he plays WONDER Across Continents at Polygon Portal in Soho, London, his first live spatial audio show. Fifteen thousand miles following millions of birds and the stories they tell, moving all around and above you on 27 speakers.
Wildifyed, his 2024 debut EP on Sounding Wild Records, runs on two things at once, the patience of a birdwatcher waiting days for a bird to sing and the energy of a 6 a.m. UK bass dance floor. Awe humbles, he says, and wonder is the gateway to respect. He wants people to take their headphones off, put the screen down and go out to meet their own local migratory birds.
The recordings come from the Across Continents overland expeditions through Europe and Africa, at first with his brother Ario, sharing the sounds and the music with local communities along the way, and from residencies, the AOS bird-ringing and sound residency in Albania in April 2026 and The Forest at the Forest Creative Loft in Cameroon. He played the Woodsies stage at Glastonbury 2025 with Sam Lee, and The Global Birdsong premiered in Nairobi in September 2026. WONDER Across Continents is also the name of the final expedition, setting off in 2027.
He tours with Sam Lee in the live version of Singing With Nightingales, which has played to more than 6,500 people, and has also played, on invitation, Shambala Festival, Alexandra Palace, EartH Hackney, EarthSonic Live in Manchester, Fabrica in Brighton, The Forest in Cameroon and BirdLife International's Global Partnership Meeting in Nairobi.
Axel Wild is the artist name of Axel Drioli. His label, Sounding Wild Records, gives a portion of all royalties to NGOs working on wildlife and soundscape conservation.
The Global Birdsong is an Afro-electronic track he built with Timothy Arinaitwe from birdsong recorded by BirdLife Partners in more than 100 countries. It premiered at BirdLife International's Global Partnership Meeting in Nairobi in September 2026. Sounds Right, the music project from Brian Eno's climate charity EarthPercent and UN Live, released it with NATURE credited as an artist, so part of every stream goes to conservation.
Axel Wild is the artist name of Axel Drioli, a UK-based, Italian-born musician, producer and wildlife sound recordist. He makes electronic music (house, funk, hip-hop and jungle) from his own field recordings of birds and wild places. He founded the creative studio Sounding Wild and the label Sounding Wild Records.
He records wildlife in the field, on travels across continents and at the residencies and places that invite him, then samples the calls and the rhythms inside them and builds tracks around them. On stage he performs these as live electronic sets, including multichannel shows and silent discos.
Wildifyed is Axel Wild’s debut EP, released on 29 November 2024 on Sounding Wild Records. Its four tracks are built from wildlife recordings made across West Africa during the Wings Across Continents expedition, including Black-Crowned Cranes recorded in Senegal.
Across Continents (2023 to 2026) is an overland project by Sounding Wild. Axel, first with his brother Ario Drioli, drives through Europe and West Africa along migratory bird routes, records rare bird calls, shares immersive soundscapes and music with local communities, and turns the recordings into new music. It runs as a series: Wings, Sounds and Music Across Continents.
The Global Birdsong is an Afro-electronic track by Timothy Arinaitwe, Axel Wild and NATURE. It is built from bird sounds recorded by nearly all of BirdLife International's 125 Partners in more than 100 countries, with help from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. It premiered at BirdLife's Global Flyways Summit and Partnership Meeting in Nairobi on 9 September 2026. Sounds Right, the music project from Brian Eno's climate charity EarthPercent and UN Live, released it on 14 October 2026 and credits NATURE as an artist, so part of every stream funds conservation. Listen everywhere or read the story.
As a sound recordist and spatial audio designer he has worked on projects for the Philharmonia Orchestra, BBC Springwatch and The Guardian. He created the touring version of Singing With Nightingales with Sam Lee (Glastonbury 2025, Shambala, Alexandra Palace) and composed The Global Birdsong with Timothy Arinaitwe for BirdLife International, released in October 2026 through Sounds Right, the music project from Brian Eno's climate charity EarthPercent and UN Live. He made the Soundly film Sounds Like Home: Wherever Birds Fly (1.4 million views) and has been featured by Zoom and L-Acoustics.
